2010 ACS E. Ann Nalley Northeast Region Award for Volunteer Service

Prof. Richard Partch

Professor Richard (Dick) E. Partch has been an ACS member for 47 years and has been contributed in an number significant ways on the local, regional and national levels. He has held many ACS-related positions of responsibility, and conducted this volunteer work with great aplomb and acumen. Some of these positions include: the Publicity Chairman for the 10th Northeast Regional ACS Meeting in 1980; the Editor of the monthly bulletin of the Northern New York Section of the ACS from 1965 until 1990; Chemistry Olympiad Coordinator from 2003 – 2009; Chairman and Vice Chairman of Northern New York Section of the ACS, from 1979–82 and again 1997–2000; and most recently as Councilor for the Northern New York ACS Section from 1987 93 and again from 2000 through the present. In addition to these positions, beginning with his arrival in Potsdam, NY, in the mid-1960’s, Dick has been an active visitor to local schools, an activity that has meant he has known virtually every high school chemistry teacher in the NNY section area.

The significance of Dick’s contributions to the local NNY section cannot be overstated. In times past, the section struggled with recruiting people to serve on committees yet Dick was unfailing in his determination to bring new blood into section activities. Without his efforts the section would not be as active as it is today. It may be only a slight overstatement to say that Dick is not IN the NNY Local Section, but rather IS the NNY Section!!!

Dr. Partch received his award at the awards banquet, as shown below.
